India’s Semiconductor Future in Focus at SEMICON India 2024

The SEMICON India 2024 Summit has kicked off today at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, with a significant emphasis on India’s ambitions to become a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing. The event, running from September 11 to 13, is centered around the theme “Shaping the Semiconductor Future” and aims to highlight India’s strategic vision for advancing its semiconductor industry.

The summit began with an inaugural address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been a driving force behind the nation’s push to develop a robust semiconductor ecosystem. PM Modi’s vision involves making India self-reliant in semiconductor technology, a goal that aligns with broader efforts to enhance technological infrastructure and foster innovation within the country.

Earlier in the week, PM Modi convened a Semiconductor Executives’ Roundtable, where he engaged with leaders from various organizations involved in the semiconductor sector. The discussions focused on how these executives’ insights could influence both their businesses and India’s future technological landscape. PM Modi emphasized the integral role of semiconductors in the Digital Age, describing the industry as foundational for future technological and societal advancements.

The Prime Minister also outlined the strategic pillars for growth, which include bolstering social, digital, and physical infrastructure, promoting inclusive development, reducing regulatory burdens, and attracting investment in manufacturing and innovation.

The summit features a diverse array of participants, including global semiconductor giants and industry experts. Over 250 exhibitors and 150 speakers are set to contribute to the conference, showcasing the latest advancements and discussing strategies to position India as a leading semiconductor hub.

Among the prominent attendees are representatives from major semiconductor firms such as Micron, NXP, and Intel, as well as esteemed academics from institutions like Stanford University and IIT Bhubaneswar. Their collective presence underscores the global interest in India’s semiconductor potential and the collaborative efforts needed to realize this vision.

As India moves forward with its semiconductor strategy, SEMICON India 2024 serves as a platform to discuss and refine policies, explore new technologies, and foster partnerships that will shape the future of the industry both within India and on the global stage.
