Super Heavy has made a historic milestone by completing its last mission and can tow it again within an hour. This major achievement comes after the fifth test flight of the Starship rocket; the booster was landed safely at the launch pad in Boca Chica, Texas.
The Super Heavy booster was caught by a pair of mechanical arms, nicknamed “chopsticks” during the launch on Sunday, seven minutes after takeoff. It is notable that this is the first time SpaceX see to it that booster landed on the platform on the launch pad as opposed the ways that were used in the previous steps by the company. Elon Musk also tweeted about the event, saying “Just inspected the Starship booster, which the arms have now placed back in its launch mount. Looks great!”
Although, Musk said that there was some warping on the outer engine nozzles by heat, he said there were few noticeable problems, which are not major. The swift refurbishment is for SpaceX’s goal of fast flight reuse—the best case scenario an hour after liftoff. It involves refilling propellants, and placing a Starship on top of the booster.
This new method looks to change space exploration by significantly slashing the time that is required between flights. Further, the mission intended used of the Starship upper stage of a suborbital trajectory with a planned impact in the Indian ocean after 65 minutes of launching.
As Elon Musk is successfully striving for the pole star of space revolution, this success indicates the progress of greater efficiency in interplanetary travel.
